#4 Current Major and Career Goals
My current career goals are to be an editor for a popular magazine or newspaper. I would like to start out as a reporter and then be promoted to editor. I would like to work for the entertainment section, writing stories on celebrity news, events in Hollywood and L.A., ect. These are my career goals because I have always enjoyed writing, as well as reading media and I would like to be a part of it. I will reach these career goals by interning while still in school and then applying for jobs when I finish school. I am currently applying for a publishing internship at Wolf Trap. My major is Communication with a concentration in Journalism, so this fits my career goals to a T. My minor is Spanish and I have thought about writing for a Spanish magazine, such as People en EspaƱol. Even if I don’t work for a Spanish magazine or newspaper, knowing the language is extremely useful because of the diverse nature of the United States. In five years, I see myself possibly working on my PhD in Communication or Journalism. I also hope to be working for the online version of a popular magazine or newspaper. I may also want to work in another country, like Spain, for a few years. In 10 years, I see myself as an established journalist, editing and reporting for a magazine or newspaper. By that time, I hope to be married with one or two kids and live close to the city in New York. In 15 years, I see myself continuing to work for a magazine or newspaper, but I might also like to do some traveling around the world. I would really like to visit Spain and Italy with my family.
